Sunday quiet, laundry rotas, and the unwritten apartment rules

The single biggest source of conflict in a Swiss apartment building is noise. The second is the laundry room. Get both right and you become invisible in the good way.

Quiet hours: 22:00 to 07:00 every night, and all day Sunday. No drilling, no vacuuming, no loud music, no laundry machine after 22:00.

The Waschküche (communal laundry) works on a printed rota. Book your slot, do not overrun it, and clean the lint filter after every load. Every building has a story of the neighbour who did not.

Bins go out the night before collection. Recycling only on the printed days. Ask the Hauswart for the year's schedule. It is on paper somewhere.
