SERAFE, the bill that arrives whether you own a TV or not

The household media fee is CHF 335 per year per household, and it is device-independent. No television, streaming only, makes no difference.

You never register with SERAFE. Your commune registration feeds it automatically, every household is assigned to one of twelve billing groups, and your first invoice is pro-rated from your registration date.

It is per household, not per person. In a shared flat there is one fee per flat and all adults are jointly and severally liable. SERAFE does not split the bill for you.

The annual invoice is payable within 60 days. Quarterly invoicing on request costs CHF 2 more per paper invoice, so CHF 343 per year. Reminders cost CHF 5 and starting debt enforcement costs CHF 20, which can end in a debt-register entry that landlords check.

The fee falls to CHF 312 in 2027 and CHF 300 in 2029. The old no-device opt-out ended on 31 December 2023 and no longer exists.
