Halbtax, GA, or nothing. The transport decision tree
Swiss trains, trams, and buses are one system. The question is only how much you use them.
Halbtax (CHF 190 per year) halves every ticket you buy. Pays for itself in about eight decent train trips. Almost every resident owns one.
GA (CHF 3995 per year, second class) means every train, tram, bus, and most boats in the country are already paid for. Break-even is roughly a daily commute of 40+ km each way.
If you commute inside one city, buy the local Verbund monthly pass instead. In Zurich it is ZVV. In Geneva, Unireso.
